Ok ….. so how to explain today! First off, we decided last night to double up our stages and finish the camino in 9 days vs. 10. That meant we had to do a 40km day today. We were definitely a bit anxious about the day. Niki has 3 blisters she was worried about, and I have been nursing my left knee and a right little pinky toe that may just fall off at any time. With that said, we tried to stay positive and trek. We started in the dark, and surprisingly, we did super well. We went 6 miles before our first short stop for a coffee. After that, we made it to the original planned stopping point by noon. A toast and coffee later .. plus, a lot of stretching we were off. The remaining 12 miles our plan was to just break it into 5 mile treks. We found an old church with nice grass at mile 5 to stretch. After that, we made it to mile 22 … Niki was craving a Coke Zero. With only 3 miles to go we found 1 very sketchy place. A hut with a Spanish man. We got our Coke Zero along with a 30-minute discussion on how Spain is going to take over the world. He even called half of the us “the new Spain”. 😳 It was hilarious.. but at the same time annoying because we were hurting so bad and just wanted to get to the hotel. Finally, we arrived at the combo hotel-restaurant. We layed in bed for hour, showered and tried to find dinner. We decided to just goto market for meat and cheese. As some of you may know I am a little scared of Padron. Last time I was here I had the local octopus dish and ended with food poisoning. So I felt the market food was a safe bet.
1 more night sleep and we are up early tomorrow for our final destination… Santiago!
